1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?
The beginning was around 2 minutes and 55 seconds, including 9 titles. 2. What connotations do the images carry?
The images carry a suspenseful connotation. The choice of music being played creates a sense of being “on edge.” The color palette mainly consisted of reds, blacks, and white. Some of the names were presented on weapons or other objects that can tell the audience that the movie is a thriller. There was also a high pressure sequence in a high contrast black-and-white-styles.
3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The genre is symbolized through all the objects shown in the opening, and well as the music and color choice. Since the colors are darker and tells the audience that it is not going to be a bright and happy movie. The suspenseful music also adds to the thriller genre. A lot of the names presented are on things like guns or hidden on things. This shows that the film includes some mystery and suspense. the camera pans across the scene, alternating between wide and close shots, the tension builds slowly but surely, culminating in the film’s climactic opening scene. All of the different angles and camera movements hall played a role in adding to the thriller genre.
4. What conventions are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The dark, deep red that is often shown in each title stands out with the black and white. The color of read can symbolize blood, fear, or death. The suspenseful music can attract those that are interested in thriller films, and the different images and objects shown, such as the names being written on the ground, on guns, or hidden on objects, can show that the film is going to include action and suspense. The font of the names where also in a style that added to the mpood of the sequence. The different angles and movements that are included in the sequence also adds suspense, which makes the opening more exciting to watch. From the use of music, color scheme, font, style, and choice of images to be presented all used conventions to keep the audience entertained.
