How to make a short film

Image
Today I watched a video about how to make a short film. Throughout this video, I learned several techniques that I will use when creating a short film. One important thing is casting. It is important to find actors who are suitable for the character. Having correct casting can make a huge improvement to your film. The video also explained how it is important to put 100% into your acting. It can often be obvious if you are not putting in your full effort. By putting in 100%, your scenes will look much more powerful and realistic. If you don’t have the correct tools to capture sound, you may want to try to not have your film heavy on the dialogue. It is important to keep in mind what resources you have when creating a short film. If you don’t have the right resources in a certain area in film making, make sure to not have that element the focus of the film. But if you do have the correct gear, make sure it is being captured in the best way possible. It is also important to step away fr

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

Image
Today I watched a video comparing the short film “12 Monkeys” to the original film. After watching this video, I have gathered a lot of helpful information that I can use when creating my short film. The video goes in depth about the different elements that the director of the short film “12 Monkeys” used. One thing that I noticed was the costumes, make up, and effects that where used. These elements made it clear to the audience that the genre of the film was Sci-Fi/Thriller. The video also talks about some of the differences between “12 Monkeys” and the original video. They talked about some of the contrasts between the two, and if the new version had any improvements from the original.     All of the information that was explained in the video will help me throughout the process of the creation of my short film.   After watching a video about the short film, I also read an article about it. When reading the article about “12 monkeys, “I was able to learn a lot of information on wh

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

Image
When watching the short film, one of the first things I noticed was the style of the credits along with the music. Both the font of the text and the music gives the audience a sense of suspense. The 9 written on the back of one of the characters tells us that he must be one of the main characters. There is no dialogue in this film, however, Acker includes diegetic sound and other sound affects that allow the viewer to know what is going on. The music, camera angles, lighting, and editing are all used in a sense that make the audience feel on edge. The use of the numbers on the back of the clothing tells is a creative way to show the connection between the other characters without the use of dialogue. The full-length film still contains its suspenseful elements. More characters are involved in the full film, and there is dialogue between the different characters. This film contains more of a background about the characters and also has a more detailed plot. Something that I like about

Genre decision blog

Image
After a lot of brainstorming and thinking, my group has chosen our genre to do “Drama”. Our past three projects last year have been comedic and lively. We wanted to switch it up this time around. Since we have more experience know, it will not be as hard to make a Drama opening seen as it would have been a couple months ago. Our top three decisions were Horror, Thriller and Drama. The differences we discussed were that Horror is just straight up terrifying. On the other hand, thriller is scary but there is built up suspense. We figured that it would be easier to film a drama entrance rather than a horror film or thriller film because we are teenagers and drama is our lives. We also discussed that it would be more fun to make a Drama film. Our last three films were not intentionally humorous but they came out to be because we just looked like awkward teens. However with this film we want it to be different. We want to make something that could be better than anything we have made befo

Genre Research- Horror

Horror is a film genre that seeks to elicit fear or disgust in its audience for entertainment purposes. Horror films often explore dark subject matter and may deal with transgressive topics or themes. CAMS in horror films go as such. For camera angles a high angle makes the characters look vulnerable. Movements used in this genre are pans. A slow pan may reveal something scary. For shots a handheld camera shot. This is used very often in horror films to add a sense of reality. Acting in horror films includes a shock factor. This means acting calm then suddenly acting scared. Makeup in horror films should be very detailed on the actors that represent something to induce fear. Such as a clown. Props in a horror film may vary. Weapons for the inducers may provoke fear from viewers. The setting also may be in a secluded area, per

Genre Research-Thriller

Thrillers are characterized and defined by the moods they elicit, giving viewers heightened feelings of suspense, excitement, surprise, anticipation, and anxiety. The CAMS in thriller movies go as such. A slow tilt may be used to unveil a character slowly. An angle such as a high angle shows that the character is being looked down upon. What Genre Should We Chose?

Image
When deciding what genre that we would possibly want our film to be, we came up with a thriller, horror, and drama film. We feel that these genres could all make interesting films and would allow us to be creative with our ideas. Thrillers are very common in the film industry, but they are very suspenseful and exciting to watch. Horror films are very scary and are meant to startle the audience.     And dramas often contain emotional and development of the characters in the film. All of these different genres are somewhat similar to one another; however, they contain different elements.     We will definitely have to consider what genre will be convenient for us while still being interesting for the audience.
