How to make a short film

Today I watched a video about how to make a short film. Throughout this video, I learned several techniques that I will use when creating a short film. One important thing is casting. It is important to find actors who are suitable for the character. Having correct casting can make a huge improvement to your film. The video also explained how it is important to put 100% into your acting. It can often be obvious if you are not putting in your full effort. By putting in 100%, your scenes will look much more powerful and realistic. If you don’t have the correct tools to capture sound, you may want to try to not have your film heavy on the dialogue. It is important to keep in mind what resources you have when creating a short film. If you don’t have the right resources in a certain area in film making, make sure to not have that element the focus of the film. But if you do have the correct gear, make sure it is being captured in the best way possible. It is also important to step away from your film after seeing/editing it for a while. Once you watch it too many times, you stop “seeing it.” So it is important to step away after a while and take a break. Bringing in someone who has not seen it can also give a whole new perspective on the film. If you don’t have the highest budget, make sure to get music from websites that allow you to legally incorporate it in your films. This can save you a lot of time and money. Getting and giving notes is also very important. Finding a person you trust to give/ get notes from is key. Another thing that is important is to not incorporate things that you are not the best at doing. You do not want to include things that are “half done.” Overall, this video gave me a lot of new information that I found very helpful. This will be very beneficial for my short film process.
