Production Blog: Putting Together My Costumes

 One of the first things that I thought of when putting together the ideas of our film were the costumes. Since I will be playing a "mean girl," it is very important that the viewers know that I am playing that type of character. When I thinking of what a typical popular, mean girl wears, I usually think of hot pink. I feel like in movies where there is a mean girl in the film, they usually wear pink, sometimes tighter clothing, and their hair is usually down and straight. Most mean girls also have blonde hair. I don't have the blondest hair, but I think it will be good enough for the movie, and it is also not necessary that I have blonde hair. When me and my group member where planning the idea of our film, the outfit I was wearing that day was actually a great example, which kind of sparked some our ideas for the film. I was wearing jeans with a bright, hot pink top with my hair in a half up half down hairstyle. This helped us come up with really good ideas on what we can include in our films. I am definitely the total opposite of what a mean girl is, which is why my group member was originally going to be the mean girl and I was going to play the new girl. However, I brought up how we also need to consider the typical looks of the characters that we are playing. My group member has more of a new girl look. She has glasses, braces, and dark hair, which I feel like looks more like what typical "new girl" looks like. Our film isn't going to be a one day event, so I will have to think if different outfits that I could wear. I could wear pink on each different day, but I don't want it to be too repetitive. After looking at some pictures of mean girl outfits from other films, I noticed that they wear a lot of skirts as well. This can help me mix up my outfits in the scenes of our film. I think my best bet is to stick to more basic clothing items, and keep the color pink, and skirts as options for what I can wear. The first scene that I am in, I will definitely wear pink because I feel like that will make it more obvious that I am playing the "mean girl."I will most likely wear my hear down and probably straightened. Hopefully my costumes will turn out how I hope they will.
